Costumes

All students need one costume per class for the Year-End Recital. Each routine has its own costume. We use the same costume for Festival work as we do for the Year-End Recital.

It is the parents’ responsibility to ensure that any alterations, additions (such as sequins, appliqué, etc.) are sewn on. It is much easier to do alterations of any kind with the child in the costume. It is rare that a parent has to have a whole costume sewn.

Appropriate shoes, tights, accessories and make-up required for each routine are also supplied by the parents.

Costumes for both the competitive and recreational students are either rented or must be personally purchased.

Parents pay a rental fee for costumes. Prices are set by the Olds and District Fine Arts Society (ODFAS). Prices vary depending on whether you are a member of ODFAS or not. ODFAS is a non-profit society and all decisions are made from the group of parents from the studio that run the society.

Memberships in ODFAS are due in October, before or at the Annual General Meeting. Please watch the bulletin boards at the studio for details.

DDA Costume Club is also a non-profit, managed by the ODFAS. All monies brought in are used to help supply any new costumes required for the year. Costume rental fees must be turned in to the DDA Costume Club, post-dated for December 1. We need to have all new costumes ordered well before Christmas.

We try to rent as may of the costumes as we can to keep costs to a minimum, but depending on costume costs, some costumes may be required to be purchased. Rented costumes typically cost between one-half and one-third of new costumes.

We also try to re-use purchased costumes from other years when possible.

For more information on the Olds and District Fine Arts Society or the DDA Costume Club contact Teena Thompson (556-6522) or Shawna Cevraini (556-2577).
