ENTRY DEADLINE JAN 15 2011

Welcome to Diamonds & Dance  ~~Festival 2011!!    We hope you will come and share your talents with us as we celebrate the upcoming dance season.  We are looking forward to an exciting learning experience for everyone and to the opportunity of working with you and your dancers!

Please Note:   As this is an Invitational Dance Competition, we do reserve the right to accept or deny participation of any Dance Studio if we have concerns.  We do, however, encourage new entries.  If you know of a studio who would like to attend please have them contact us.

 All entries must be submitted through a recognized Dance Studio.

We ask that you would read the following guidelines carefully.  Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

 Entry Fees (plus GST)

Solos                                                  $36.00 per solo

Duos/Trios/Quartets                   $26.00 per dancer

Groups/Lines/Productions        $16.00 per dancer

SHOW OF STARS

All participating studios will have the option of choosing a routine that they would like to showcase.  Each Adjudicator will also have their choice of outstanding routines perform. Special Diamond Awards will be presented after all routines have performed.

Scheduling

We understand your dancers and parents are very busy people, so our scheduling will take this into consideration.   A rough program will be sent to studios six weeks prior to performance dates.

Awards, Scholarships, & Presentations

Special awards will be presented at the Show of Stars.  Throughout the Competition, various awards will be presented, including Adjudicators Choice Awards, Workshop Scholarships, Choreography Awards, etc

Adjudication Awards

Diamond, Ruby, Sapphire & Emerald Medals will be awarded to all participating dancers In Solo, Duo/Trio/Quartet, Small Groups (5 – 9 dancers), Large Groups (10 – 15), Lines (16 – 20), Mini and Full Productions.

Medal Scoring System

                Diamond   90-100             Ruby   85-89        Sapphire   80-84                Emerald   79 & Under

Beginner Solos & Duets/Trios/Quartets  

These categories are for dancers age 11 & over who are competing in their first Solo.  Please note all dancers automatically move to a regular category the following year regardless of award or discipline.

Size Of Groups     

Small Groups (5 – 9 dancers), Large Groups (10 – 15 dancers), Lines (16 – 20)

Mini and Full Productions (21 or more dancers)

Time Limits

Time limits are mandatory and will be enforced.  Deductions will be made for routines going over the allotted time.

New teachers please note:  These are maximum time limits and meant as a guideline only.  Your entries may be under the given time!

Solos:                                                    2.5 minutes

Duos/Trios/Quartets:                    3 minutes

Small Groups (4-9 dancers)          3.5 minutes

Large Groups (10-15 dancers)     4 minutes

Lines (16 or more dancers)          5 minutes

Mini or Full Productions (21 or more dancers)     5-10 minutes

5 min. set up & 5 min. take down per Production

Please list props on your entry form and include picture of your set

BACKSTAGE   

Dancers are allowed backstage TWO ROUTINES prior to their scheduled performance and must vacate the backstage area immediately after performing.     NO PARENTS ALLOWED BACKSTAGE.

RE-DANCES   

Depending upon the circumstances, re-dances are allowed only at the discretion of the adjudicators and committee.

MISSING DANCERS                             

Missing dancers will be announced. Substitutions are allowed as long as training level is not affected. No Refunds for missing dancers.

MUSIC   

All music must be recorded in either a cassette, IPod or CD, NO live accompaniments allowed.

                We recommend you have back ups of your music.

PHOTOGRAPHY

CAMERAS, VIDEO CAMERAS, CELL PHONES OR RECORDING DEVICES ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE  THEATRE!!  Anyone ignoring this rule may subject the group or individual to disqualification or deduction of marks. PLEASE ADVISE YOUR STUDIOS OF THIS RULE!!!!

PROPS             

PLEASE BE SURE TO MARK ON ALL YOU ENTRIES IF YOU ARE USING PROPS.  

Props must be stored elsewhere and must be brought backstage only during the session they are being used in. Props must be brought in shortly before the catagory and removed from backstage at the end of the catagory.  Props may stay until a scheduled break.  Prop space is extremely limited.  Large props may be required to stay outside until it is time to set up.  Props must be removed each night after all dancers have performed.  PLEASE DO NOT REHEARSE WITH LARGE PROPS IN REHEARSAL HALL.

PLEASE NOTE:    Large props must be brought on with wheels or carried. Please do not drag any of your props across the stage floor so we prevent any damage to the theatre. Thank you!!

 TAP SHOES…    Are allowed backstage only.

SONG AND DANCE

Routine must include singing.  Recorded lyrics are not allowed in Solo or Duo/Trio/Quartet performances.

VARIETY…   This catch-all category is for routines which don’t fall into any other category.

CORRECTIONS  

A rough draft of the program will be sent to you by early March. All corrections must be submitted by FAX or EMAIL to avoid further mistakes.  Thank you for your co-operation is this.

 AGE APPROPRIATENESS/FAMILY ATMOSPHERE   

Routines not meeting the required appropriateness with respect to costuming, music editing, and choreography will be disqualified. It is expected that all dancers and audience members behave with respect and professional courtesy.

 ENTRY FORM INSTRUCTIONS

Each form must be signed indicating you have understood all policies and agree to the following release:

We hereby release Diamonds & Dance and the facility used by such, from any and all claims for damages or injuries which may be sustained while participating in any activity connected with this event, its organizers or rental faculties. We also permit Diamonds & Dance to use photos of entered routines for use of print and media advertising.

Please photocopy your forms as needed. One form is needed for each entry.  Please check box under each heading to complete entries. List all dancers names & ages on the back of each entry form.  You may instead attach your studio class lists to each entry to help with your paperwork!

ENTRY DEADLINE Jan 15, 2011

 Your Studios Entries must be received on or before the entry deadline. Late entries will be charged a $25.00 penalty per entry and will only be accepted if time permits and will not be included in the rough program until penalty fees are paid.

Cheques may be post-dated for Feb 1st or Feb 15 but please have your entries in by Jan 15th.
