Terms and Conditions for Competitions
This page contains valuable information for competition students. Please bookmark it and refer to it often.
In order for a child to be eligible to particiapte in competition work they must attend ballet classes. This applies even if a child is wishing to participate in tap, jazz, lyrical, etc. The only exception may be first year students. First year students may only participate in competition work if they are invited to do so by Miss Trish or their regular teacher. Students must participate in group routines before they may do any solo or duet work. A child must participate in regular weekly classes of any particular discipline in which they wish to compete.
All competitions will be held in Alberta unless agreed upon by all participants. Each competition has its own amounts required for entry fees. All fees are the responsibility of the parents.
Group fees will range between approximately $40 – $65 per competition and per group routine. Duet fees will range between approximately $42 – $65 and solo fees will range between $45 – $65 per competition. Each routine must pay a separate entry fee for each routine and each competition.
Each competition has its own entry deadline. These deadlines fall between November and February. Information on each competition will be listed on the upstairs bulletin board as the information becomes available.
Group routines will be attending three to five (3 to 5) competitions. All competitors must attend all festivals or be able to find someone to take their place if they are unable to make it. Solos and duets have their choice as to which festivals in which they wish to participate. We try to attend as many weekend competitions as we can, but some of them are larger and are also held during the week. Students may be required to miss some schooling in these situations, so please prepare them accordingly.
All competitors are expected to have a recording of the music with which to practice, and also have a backup competition tape for all competitions. Parents are also encouraged to videotape their child’s routines so that they may find practice at home easier. Young children are also supplied with photocopies of the notes to their routines. Practice is a must.
All competition students must attend the year-end recital. The year-end recital has a fee of $75.00 per child. Extra tickets will be $15.00 each. Availability of extra tickets will be on a first-come, first-served basis. The year-end recital will be held at the Red Deer College Theatre Main Stage in May. (May 14, 2006) Children may not miss more than three (3) rehearsals.
Also, if for any reason a child is not holding up their own end, by not practicing or behaving in a disruptive manner, they will be asked to withdraw from the group. Any fees paid would be forfeited. If Divine Dance Academy is having a problem with a child, Miss Trish will approach the parents before any action is taken.
Competition Fees, Entry Fees, Costume Fees and Dress Rehearsal Fees are non-refundable for any reason.
